Accomplishments

As noted by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), “University of Dubai is commended on the following strengths and effective practices:

  • The University of Dubai has consistently raised graduation requirements and classroom performance expectations to the extent that students are well aware of, and approve of, the higher expectations. Students see the higher expectations as a way to elevate their own learning and performance, and elevate the reputation of the university.
  • The University of Dubai and the College of Business Administration have developed and implemented a sophisticated assurance of learning process.
  • The University of Dubai has developed close ties to local businesses through its Business Advisory Council. The Council works on behalf of students to provide internship opportunities, scholarships, and job placement for students. ”

UD’s graduates and the student enrollment have both shown quality improvement:

  • The assurance of student learning has been recognized by accrediting agencies as one of best practices.
  • The publication in internationally refereed journals of faculty research papers, related to the UAE economy, has increased.

These are the key indicators of the continuous improvement being made at UD. In addition, the quality of students being admitted to UD has also improved as shown in the below statistics:

  • Around 36% of incoming students have a high school percentage of 80% or more.
  • Nearly 57% of students enrolled in 2010-11 have already reached the required TOEFL score of 500 or equivalent score in other exams.
  • The number of FTE (full-time equivalent) students per FTE faculty fell to 20:1. This is a good indicator of quality assurance in terms of attention given to individual students in classroom.
  • Survey results revealed that students are satisfied with the quality of teaching and learning. They also believe that class timings are very convenient, the location is ideal, and the university has a good reputation. UD is indeed the University of Choice for these students.
  • UAE nationals increased from 24% in 2001 to more than 40%, which is the highest amongst private educational institutions of higher education. Currently, nearly 60% of students are male, while 40% are female.
  • The library’s book collection has increased sharply during the last two years. The current collection includes 10,955 books in addition to over 5,500 e-books.
  • The overall financial position of UD has remained stable.
